[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]LeAnn Rimes[/lastfm] was all set to perform a sold-out show at the opening of the new Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. But according to the Bowling Green Daily News, she came down with the flu and had to cancel her appearance at the last minute. It was so bad LeAnn wound up in the hospital with an IV in her arm.
She Tweeted that they pumped her so full of fluids she couldn’t get her wedding ring on.
Officials at the new performing arts center decided to go ahead with their grand opening. They made some calls and convinced [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Vince Gill[/lastfm] to fill in at the last minute. Saturday night was the wedding anniversary for Gill and his wife Amy Grant, but he took the offer anyway (“I had to ask permission,” he said).
“Love my Vince,” Rimes wrote.
Some of LeAnn Rimes’ fans asked for their money back, but Vince Gill fans snatched up all of the turned-in tickets. On top of that, there wasn’t enough notice to hire a full band, so Gill did the whole show with just a microphone and a guitar. A special treat for Gill fans for sure!
Check out a fan video from the show, with Gill telling the story of filling in before launching into a great acoustic version of the Bill Monroe classic “Blue Moon of Kentucky”:
